Texas Instruments Announces Over $60 Billion Investment to Boost U.S. Semiconductor Manufacturing

Texas Instruments (TI) has unveiled a historic investment of more than $60 billion to expand semiconductor manufacturing capabilities across the United States. This marks the largest-ever commitment to foundational semiconductor production in U.S. history, solidifying TI’s role as a cornerstone of American innovation. The initiative will establish seven state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication facilities (fabs) across Texas and Utah, creating over 60,000 jobs and addressing the growing demand for chips that power everything from smartphones and vehicles to data centers and satellites.

The announcement comes as part of TI’s collaboration with the Trump administration and builds on nearly a century of technological leadership. Building Mega-Sites for Scalable Production

TI’s ambitious expansion plan includes three manufacturing mega-sites designed to produce billions of chips annually:

  • Sherman, Texas: TI’s first fab in Sherman, SM1, is set to begin initial production this year—just three years after breaking ground. Construction is also complete on the exterior shell of SM2, the second fab in Sherman. Plans for two additional fabs, SM3 and SM4, are underway to meet future demand.
  • Richardson, Texas: RFAB2, TI’s second fab in Richardson, continues to ramp up production, building on the legacy of RFAB1—the world’s first 300mm analog fab introduced in 2011.
  • Lehi, Utah: LFAB1, TI’s first 300mm wafer fab in Lehi, is currently ramping up operations. Meanwhile, construction is progressing on LFAB2, which will connect seamlessly with LFAB1 to further boost output.
