Arista Networks Unveils AI-Driven Innovations to Revolutionize AI Networking and Performance

Arista Networks (NYSE: ANET), a global leader in cloud and AI networking, has introduced groundbreaking advancements aimed at maximizing the performance and efficiency of AI clusters. These innovations include Cluster Load Balancing (CLB) in Arista EOS® and enhanced capabilities in Arista CloudVision® Universal Network Observability™ (CV UNO™). Together, these solutions empower organizations to achieve consistent low-latency network flows, optimize AI workloads, and ensure reliable job completion at scale.

Elevating AI Cluster Performance with Cluster Load Balancing

AI workloads are inherently demanding, often characterized by large bandwidth flows that require precise load balancing to avoid inefficiencies. Traditional load balancing methods struggle to meet these demands, leading to uneven traffic distribution and increased tail latency—critical challenges for AI infrastructure. To address this, Arista has introduced Cluster Load Balancing (CLB), an Ethernet-based AI load balancing solution powered by RDMA queue pairs.

CLB ensures high bandwidth utilization between spines and leaves, enabling uniform traffic distribution and consistent low latency. By leveraging RDMA-aware flow placement, CLB optimizes traffic in both directions—leaf-to-spine and spine-to-leaf—ensuring balanced utilization and minimizing tail latency. This innovation is particularly valuable for AI clusters, where even minor delays can significantly impact performance.

“Arista’s Cluster Load Balancing feature helps us avoid flow contentions and increase throughput in ML networks as we continue to expand our AI infrastructure leveraging Arista switches,” said Jag Brar, Vice President and Distinguished Engineer at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. “This advanced load balancing technique is essential for scaling AI workloads efficiently.”

With CLB now available on platforms like 7260X3, 7280R3, 7500R3, and 7800R3, Arista is setting a new standard for AI-grade networking robustness. Support for additional platforms, including 7060X6, 7060X5, and 7800R4, is scheduled for release in 2025.

Holistic AI Observability with CV UNO

In addition to CLB, Arista has enhanced its CloudVision Universal Network Observability (CV UNO) platform to provide unparalleled visibility into AI workloads. Powered by Arista AVA™, CV UNO unifies network, system, and AI job data within the Arista Network Data Lake (NetDL™), delivering end-to-end observability for AI-driven infrastructure.

The introduction of EOS NetDL Streamer, a real-time telemetry framework, further elevates CV UNO’s capabilities. Unlike traditional SNMP polling, which relies on periodic queries and risks missing critical updates, EOS NetDL Streamer streams granular network data continuously into NetDL. This event-driven approach provides low-latency, high-frequency insights into network performance, making it ideal for large-scale AI training and inferencing environments.

Key features of CV UNO include:

  • AI Job Monitoring: Gain comprehensive visibility into AI job health metrics, including job completion times, congestion indicators (e.g., ECN-marked packets, PFC pause frames, packet drops), and buffer/link utilization for real-time insights.
  • Deep-Dive Analytics: Analyze network devices, server NICs, and associated flows to uncover critical job-specific insights. Identify performance bottlenecks such as PFC out-of-sync events, RDMA errors, and PCIe fatal errors with precision.
  • Flow Visualization: Leverage CV topology mapping to visualize AI job flows at microsecond granularity, accelerating issue inference and resolution.
  • Proactive Resolution: Detect anomalies early and correlate network and compute performance within NetDL, ensuring uninterrupted execution of high-efficiency AI workloads.

These enhancements are currently in active customer trials, with general availability expected in Q2 2025.
