Energy Capital Partners and KKR Partner to Develop Hyperscale Data Center Campus in Texas

Energy Capital Partners and KKR Kick Off $50 Billion Strategic Partnership with Hyperscale Data Center Campus in Texas

Energy Capital Partners (ECP) and KKR, two of the most prominent names in infrastructure and investment, have announced the development of a groundbreaking 190 MW hyperscale data center campus in Bosque County, Texas. This marks the first major investment from their $50 billion strategic partnership, aimed at scaling AI infrastructure across the United States. Combining digital capacity with dedicated, reliable power, the Bosque campus represents a pioneering model for delivering integrated AI-ready infrastructure at scale.

The Bosque campus is strategically located adjacent to Calpine Corporation’s Thad Hill Energy Center, leveraging the reliability of natural gas generation to ensure consistent power supply. Calpine has secured a long-term contract to provide dedicated power to the data center campus, redirecting surplus energy to support grid stability and meet local demand during periods of scarcity. This unique arrangement sets a precedent for future developments, aligning hyperscale data centers with regional utilities and energy providers.

Designed as a multiphase project spanning over 700,000 square feet, the campus will initially deliver 144 MW of IT capacity. With the potential for rapid expansion, the total investment is expected to approach $4 billion, positioning it as one of the largest AI infrastructure builds in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. The campus will be constructed in collaboration with CyrusOne, a leading global data center developer and operator, and ECP, ensuring seamless execution and scalability.

“This first investment through our strategic partnership combines ECP’s power expertise to deliver reliable near-term power with KKR’s strong track record in investing in data center development,” said Tyler Reeder, President of ECP. “With ample capital, a broad existing asset base, and deep sector relationships, our strategic partnership is designed to source and deliver fully integrated, scaled power infrastructure and data center solutions for hyperscalers and other market participants to support their infrastructure needs.”

Waldemar Szlezak, Partner and Global Head of Digital Infrastructure at KKR, echoed this sentiment: “The surge in AI demand isn’t just stretching infrastructure—it’s rewriting the blueprint for how it needs to be built. Hyperscalers need more than capacity; they need certainty, integration, and speed. This project is a reflection of that new reality: bringing together scalable land, power, and compute under a single, coordinated strategy. It is the kind of solution we believe will define the future of infrastructure—and it’s just the beginning of what’s possible when you combine deep operational expertise with long-term industrial vision.”

A Blueprint for Future Deployments

The Bosque campus serves as a template for similar projects across the nation, addressing the growing demands of hyperscalers while supporting local utilities and grid reliability. By integrating power generation with data center operations, the campus ensures that excess energy is repurposed to stabilize the grid and meet peak demand. This innovative approach not only enhances the efficiency of the data center but also contributes to the broader energy ecosystem.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the CyrusOne campus will incorporate climate-neutral initiatives, water conservation measures, biodiversity protection, and emergency response capabilities. These features underscore the commitment to environmentally responsible infrastructure development, aligning with global trends toward greener technology solutions.

Construction of the project is already underway, with the campus anticipated to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2026. The timing reflects the urgency of meeting AI infrastructure demands while adhering to rigorous timelines and quality standards.

Driving Innovation and Growth

The partnership between ECP and KKR exemplifies the convergence of energy and technology, creating a new paradigm for infrastructure development. By pooling resources and expertise, the two firms are poised to deliver scalable, reliable, and sustainable solutions that meet the evolving needs of hyperscalers and other market participants. This initiative not only addresses the immediate demands of AI infrastructure but also lays the groundwork for future advancements.

Tyler Reeder emphasized the strategic alignment of the partnership: “Our goal is to provide hyperscalers with the certainty and integration they require to thrive in the AI era. By combining ECP’s power expertise with KKR’s investment prowess, we can deliver solutions that exceed expectations and set new benchmarks in the industry.”

Waldemar Szlezak highlighted the transformative potential of the project: “This is more than a data center—it’s a model for the future of infrastructure. By integrating power, compute, and sustainability under one roof, we’re creating a blueprint that can be replicated across the country. It’s the kind of innovation that defines the next generation of infrastructure development.”

A Sustainable Future

The Bosque campus represents a significant step forward in sustainable infrastructure development. By prioritizing climate neutrality, water conservation, and biodiversity protection, the project aligns with global efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of technology. Additionally, the campus’s ability to respond during ERCOT grid emergencies ensures resilience and reliability, reinforcing its role as a critical component of the energy ecosystem.

As construction progresses, the Bosque campus is expected to become a hub for AI innovation, attracting hyperscalers and fostering economic growth in the region. With its commitment to sustainability and scalability, the project sets a standard for future developments, demonstrating that innovation and responsibility can coexist.
