SS&C Technologies Finalizes Acquisition of Curo Fund Services, Strengthening Presence in South Africa
SS&C Technologies Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: SSNC), a global leader in financial services software and services, has successfully completed the acquisition of Curo Fund Services, a prominent provider of fund administration solutions based in South Africa. Curo was previously owned by a joint venture between Sanlam and Old Mutual, two of South Africa’s largest financial services groups. While the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, the acquisition marks a significant milestone for SS&C as it expands its footprint in the African market.
Curo Fund Services is a key player in the South African financial services landscape, administering over R 3 trillion (approximately USD 170.4 billion) in assets. The company provides comprehensive fund administration services to Sanlam, Old Mutual, and a range of third-party institutional clients. With the completion of the acquisition, approximately 300 employees from Curo have joined SS&C’s team in Cape Town. These professionals will now operate under SS&C Global Investor & Distribution Solutions, a division led by Nick Wright. This integration is expected to enhance SS&C’s ability to deliver cutting-edge automation, data analytics, and operational expertise to clients across South Africa and the broader African continent.
The merger positions Curo Fund Services to expand its service offerings and grow its market share significantly. By leveraging SS&C’s global scale, technological capabilities, and deep industry expertise, Curo is poised to accelerate its growth trajectory while maintaining its reputation for excellence in client service. Importantly, the transaction will not disrupt Curo’s existing client administration arrangements, ensuring continuity for its valued clients. Both SS&C and Curo are committed to facilitating a seamless transition, with a focus on enhancing service delivery and providing innovative solutions tailored to the needs of South African institutions.
For SS&C, the acquisition represents an opportunity to strengthen its presence in one of Africa’s most dynamic financial markets. South Africa’s growing economy, coupled with its status as a regional hub for financial services, makes it an attractive destination for expansion. By integrating Curo’s operations into its global network, SS&C aims to offer clients in the region access to its advanced automation tools, data-driven insights, and integrated service offerings. These enhancements are designed to improve efficiency, reduce operational risks, and empower asset managers, insurers, and institutional investors to achieve better outcomes for their clients.
Bill Stone, Chairman and CEO of SS&C Technologies, expressed his enthusiasm about the acquisition and its potential impact. “We are thrilled to welcome Curo’s talented team and esteemed clients to the SS&C family,” said Stone. “Curo brings a wealth of experience, deep client relationships, and a proven track record of delivering exceptional service in the South African market. Together, we are well-positioned to provide a robust and comprehensive suite of solutions that meet the evolving needs of insurers, asset managers, and institutional investors in the region.”
Stone further emphasized the strategic importance of the acquisition, highlighting the opportunities it creates for collaboration and innovation. “By combining SS&C’s global expertise with Curo’s local knowledge and capabilities, we can drive greater efficiency, deliver data-driven insights, and offer integrated services that empower our clients to succeed,” he added. “We look forward to working closely with the Curo team to unlock new possibilities and support the continued growth of South Africa’s financial services sector.”
The acquisition also underscores SS&C’s commitment to expanding its global reach and diversifying its service offerings. As a leader in fund administration, SS&C has consistently demonstrated its ability to adapt to changing market conditions and deliver value to clients worldwide. The addition of Curo Fund Services aligns with SS&C’s strategy of acquiring businesses that complement its existing operations and enhance its competitive advantage. By integrating Curo’s specialized expertise in South African fund administration with SS&C’s world-class technology and operational infrastructure, the company is well-equipped to meet the demands of an increasingly complex and interconnected financial services landscape.
