Quectel Unveils KGM133S: Advanced Matter over Thread Modules to Revolutionize Smart Home Connectivity
Quectel Wireless Solutions, a global leader in end-to-end IoT solutions, has announced the launch of the KGM133S, the first in its range of Matter over Thread modules. Designed to address the growing need for seamless device interoperability in smart homes, the KGM133S offers innovative solutions for applications such as smart door locks, sensors, and lighting. By leveraging the latest advancements in Matter 1.4 protocol and Thread technology, Quectel is helping the smart home industry overcome connectivity barriers and paving the way for a new era of efficiency and seamless integration.
Overcoming Protocol Fragmentation with Matter over Thread
“Protocol fragmentation remains one of the biggest obstacles to seamless smart device connectivity, and the Matter protocol is the key to overcoming it,” said Delbert Sun, Deputy General Manager at Quectel Wireless Solutions. “With our new Matter over Thread modules, we are helping the industry achieve true interoperability. Looking ahead, Quectel will continue to focus on comprehensive connectivity for smart homes, working closely with ecosystem partners to accelerate industry transformation and enhance everyday user experiences.”
The KGM133S series is built on the Silicon Labs EFR32MG24 chip and supports the latest Matter 1.4 protocol, enabling seamless integration across major smart home ecosystems, including Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings. By bridging these ecosystems, the KGM133S eliminates compatibility issues, allowing users to experience a truly unified smart home environment.
The Power of Matter and Thread
Thread, based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, natively supports globally unique IPv6 addressing, enabling direct IP-based connectivity without relying on gateways for complex protocol conversions. This simplifies network architecture, reduces latency, and enhances overall system reliability. Combined with the universal compatibility of the Matter protocol, the KGM133S delivers robust, scalable connectivity for all-scenario IoT solutions.
Unlike Zigbee, which often requires gateways for communication, Thread devices connect directly to the Internet via a Border Router, streamlining the network structure. With its low power consumption and high reliability, Thread has emerged as a cornerstone technology for the Matter ecosystem, and the KGM133S leverages these advantages to deliver exceptional performance.
Key Features of the KGM133S Series
The KGM133S series is designed to meet the diverse needs of modern IoT applications while ensuring long-term market competitiveness:
- High Performance: Equipped with an ARM Cortex-M33 processor running at a maximum frequency of 78MHz, the KGM133S efficiently processes complex data instructions, making it ideal for demanding smart home applications.
- Low Power Consumption: Built on the 802.15.4 Thread protocol, the module adopts a low-power design, making it perfect for battery-powered devices such as sensors and smart locks.
- Compact Design: Available in two size options—12.5 × 13.2 × 2.2 mm (KGM133S) with a fourth-generation IPEX or pin antenna, and 12.5 × 16.6 × 2.2 mm (KGM133S-P) with an onboard PCB antenna—the modules offer flexibility for integration into compact and slim terminal designs, catering to diverse structural requirements.
