Vantage Data Centers Secures $1.6B Investment and Expands APAC Footprint with Acquisition of Yondr’s Johor Campus
In a landmark move that solidifies its position as a leading digital infrastructure provider in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, Vantage Data Centers has announced the completion of a $1.6 billion equity investment into its APAC platform. This funding round was led by GIC, a global institutional investor, and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA). A portion of this capital was allocated to finalize the acquisition of Yondr Group’s hyperscale data center campus in Sedenak Tech Park, Johor, Malaysia—a facility boasting over 300MW of IT capacity.
The transaction, initially unveiled in September, marks a significant milestone for Vantage as it expands its regional platform to encompass 1GW of operational and planned IT capacity across key APAC markets, including Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The addition of the Johor campus not only strengthens Vantage’s presence in Malaysia but also enhances its ability to serve customers with seamless access to other critical APAC hubs such as Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand.
Strategic Growth in APAC
The acquisition of the Johor campus, known as JHB1, represents Vantage’s third data center campus in Malaysia and underscores its commitment to supporting the growing demand for scalable, sustainable, and high-performance digital infrastructure in the region. With the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and other data-intensive technologies, businesses across APAC are increasingly seeking reliable and future-proof solutions to meet their evolving needs.
“DigitalBridge’s vision and long-standing investment, now reinforced by anchor investors GIC and ADIA, will fuel our continued growth and expansion in the region,” said Jeremy Deutsch, President of Vantage Data Centers, APAC. “Closing the acquisition of the Johor campus is a pivotal step in our APAC growth strategy. By integrating one of Southeast Asia’s largest and most advanced hyperscale campuses into our platform, we are better positioned to deliver sustainable and scalable infrastructure for AI and cloud customers across the region at unprecedented speed and scale.”
A Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation
The Johor campus spans nearly 73 acres and is designed to deliver over 300MW of IT capacity across three state-of-the-art data centers once fully developed. Strategically located within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, JHB1 offers robust connectivity options, including dark fiber routes, enabling seamless access to regional and international hubs.
Sustainability lies at the heart of the campus’s design and operations. Originally financed through a green loan, JHB1 incorporates cutting-edge technologies such as direct-to-chip liquid cooling, which enhances energy efficiency and reduces environmental impact. The campus is also on track to achieve EDGE certification, a globally recognized standard for resource-efficient buildings. These features align with Vantage’s commitment to providing environmentally responsible solutions that support the growing demands of hyperscale and enterprise customers.
Strengthening the Team and Expanding Capabilities
As part of the acquisition, Vantage welcomes more than 30 members of Yondr’s APAC team into its fold. This integration not only bolsters Vantage’s workforce but also brings valuable expertise and insights that will help drive the company’s mission to deliver exceptional service and support to its customers.
“We are thrilled to welcome the talented Yondr APAC team into the Vantage family,” Deutsch added. “Their contributions will be instrumental as we continue to expand our footprint and support our customers in the locations that matter most. Together, we are building a world-class platform that combines innovation, sustainability, and scalability to meet the demands of the digital age.”
A Growing Presence Across APAC
With the addition of the Johor campus, Vantage now operates or has plans for data center campuses across five key APAC markets, offering a combined capacity of 1GW. This extensive network positions Vantage as a trusted partner for hyperscale cloud providers, enterprises, and organizations seeking to leverage the region’s strategic advantages for growth and innovation.
The APAC region is widely regarded as one of the fastest-growing markets for digital infrastructure, driven by factors such as urbanization, increasing internet penetration, and the proliferation of smart technologies. As businesses race to adopt AI, edge computing, and cloud-based solutions, the demand for reliable, scalable, and sustainable data center infrastructure continues to surge.
