DMP’s latest accomplishment includes mapping the top four road classes* in North America with an impressive 15-centimeter accuracy. These road classes encompass highways, primary roads, secondary roads, and other critical thoroughfares that form the backbone of transportation networks in both countries. Each mapped mile is enriched with features necessary for safe and comfortable automated driving, including lane dividers, road edges, crossings, and various objects. Additionally, DMP supplements observable features with virtual elements such as turn trajectories, virtual road edges, and light-to-lane assignments, ensuring a robust dataset for autonomous systems.
Since 2023, DMP’s Mobile Mapping Systems have added 400,000 miles of secondary roads and other local routes to their database using cutting-edge LiDAR technology and high-resolution imagery. Secondary roads, often referred to as “Mile Roads” in many North American cities, are typically maintained by state and local authorities and serve as vital connectors between cities and smaller towns. The inclusion of these roads significantly enhances the practicality and safety of autonomous driving on non-divided roads with busy intersections.
