Technical Tour to IBM Quantum, the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) and the IPAI artificial intelligence campus in Baden-Württemberg.
Participants of the Technical Tour, taking place on 6 October 2025 and one day before Quantum Effects, will be given the opportunity to experience, live and direct, the cutting-edge research taking place into quantum technology and its industrial applications in the innovative region of Baden-Württemberg. Supported by the Verband Region Stuttgart, the tour will explore the innovation triangle of quantum computing, supercomputing and artificial intelligence – at IBM Quantum, the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) and the IPAI artificial intelligence campus in Baden-Württemberg – and demonstrate how “The Länd”, or Baden-Württemberg, is helping to shape the future of high-performance informatics. “With the Technical Tour, we are combining three superb players active in this innovative region – and providing both experts and newcomers with an opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of these groundbreaking developments,” explains Guido von Vacano, Executive Vice President at Messe Stuttgart.
Station 1: IBM Quantum – Pioneering work from Ehningen
Ehningen has been home to Europe’s first IBM Quantum System One since June 2021. In October 2024, IBM opened the first European IBM Quantum Data Center at the same location, the first one outside the US. It houses a series of the most powerful quantum computers from IBM, some of which are equipped with the latest IBM Heron processor. Members of the IBM Quantum Network, among them over 80 European-based organisations, have access to these quantum computers and are working on the development of algorithms and applications which could soon solve some of the most complex challenges in their industries.
“To mark the centenary of the formulation of quantum mechanics, UNESCO has declared 2025 the ‘International Year of Quantum Science and Technology’. In itself a noteworthy event, however there is already major interest in quantum computing, attributable to the fantastic progress made here in recent years. During the Technical Tour in Ehningen, visitors will be shown some of the best quantum computers in the data centre and find out more about how we, together with our partners, are developing the technology – and the algorithms – that will allow us to design applications with a quantum advantage,” explains David Faller, IBM Vice President Development and Managing Director of IBM Deutschland Research & Development GmbH.
Station 2: High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) – The next generation of supercomputing
As Germany’s first national high-performance computing centre, the HLRS operates state-of-the-art supercomputers for science and industry. Tour participants will be introduced to the AI Factory HammerHAI and the new supercomputer “Hunter”, as well as be given a chance to experience interactive 3D applications in the visualisation laboratory. Dennis Hoppe, Head of Converged Computing at HLRS, explains: “During the Technical Tour, we will be providing visitors with exclusive insights into our latest technologies – such as the supercomputer “Hunter”, the AI Factory HammerHAI and immersive 3D experiences. Here, visitors will experience first-hand the ways in which supercomputing is driving innovation.”
Station 3: IPAI artificial intelligence innovation park – AI meets quantum technology
The IPAI in Heilbronn is a unique European platform for the joint development of ethically responsible AI by those working in the economy, the public sector and research – in the spirit of European sovereignty and sustainability. Established in 2022 and located in the 6,500 square metre IPAI SPACES in Heilbronn’s “Zukunftspark Wohlgelegen” technology park, the IPAI has seen membership grow to more than 80 partner companies. At the end of 2025, the next growth phase will start with the IPAI CAMPUS: an international AI hotspot with living labs, data centres and space for more than 5,000 people. During the tour, participants will have the chance to explore the IPAI Living Room and the IPAI Lab.
Networking and ticket information
To round off the tour, Messe Stuttgart is inviting all participants to attend an exclusive networking evening starting at 6 pm in the gallery of Stuttgart’s Markthalle. Take this opportunity to reflect on the impressions of the day and connect with others in a relaxed atmosphere. A ticket for the Technical Tour costs €230 and includes admission, all transfers and catering. (Does not include admission to the following trade fair ) Tickets must be purchased in advance from Messe Stuttgart at Quantum Effects admission tickets | Quantum Effects.
About Quantum Effects
Quantum Effects is the world’s leading exhibition and conference for application-oriented quantum technologies. It takes place on the grounds of Messe Stuttgart – in close cooperation with international partners and at the same time as the hy-fcell trade fair. The next Quantum Effects event will be held from 7 to 8 October 2025, providing experts and researchers with a platform to exchange information and expertise about the latest developments and applications in the quantum world.
