Oracle Launches Project Vidya to Upskill 500,000 Youth and Women in India’s Tech-Driven Economy
Oracle has announced the launch of Project Vidya, a transformative initiative aimed at training up to 500,000 youth and women in India by 2028. The program focuses on equipping learners with essential skills in cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), generative AI (Gen AI), cybersecurity, cloud computing, machine learning (ML), data science, and application development. Delivered by Oracle University, Oracle’s comprehensive training and enablement service provider, Project Vidya will offer rigorous training and certification programs designed to prepare participants for tomorrow’s technology-driven careers.
Empowering India’s Youth Through Strategic Collaborations
As part of this ambitious initiative, Oracle University is collaborating with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to train 100,000 youth and professionals from diverse educational backgrounds, including engineering, arts, and science. This partnership aims to bridge the gap between industry demands and workforce readiness, empowering learners with the skills needed to thrive in India’s rapidly evolving digital economy.
“We are the principal architects of India’s skill ecosystem. Through strategic partnerships and innovative models, we are building a skilled ecosystem that not only fulfills current industry demands but also anticipates future trends, empowering Indian youth to contribute significantly to the nation’s growth and development,” said Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO of NSDC. “Through our collaboration with industry leaders like Oracle, we want to accelerate the training requirements of our youth so it can have a positive impact on their career opportunities and also on nation-building.”
To date, over 80,000 students have already been trained and certified under Project Vidya through the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC) as part of the state’s Naan Mudhalvan programme, showcasing the program’s early success and potential for scalability.
Bridging the Skills Gap for Economic Growth
With India home to the world’s youngest population, the opportunity to harness the potential of its youth is immense. Training and education are critical pillars for economic development, and Oracle’s Project Vidya seeks to address this by providing access to modern technologies like cloud computing and AI.
“Training and education are important pillars that contribute to economic development. With India being home to the world’s youngest population, the opportunity for our youth is huge,” said Shailender Kumar, senior vice president and regional managing director of Oracle India and NetSuite JAPAC. “Through Project Vidya and by training our youth in modern technologies like cloud and AI, we believe we can make a significant contribution towards nation-building and economic growth. Our collaborations with NSDC and TNSDC will provide essential and vital skills to our future digital economy. We are looking forward to expanding the reach of the program and collaborating with states and skilling organizations across India.”
A Digital Learning Experience for Scalable Impact
Project Vidya will be delivered as a digital learning experience through Oracle MyLearn, Oracle University’s comprehensive training and enablement platform used by millions of learners worldwide. The program will begin with foundational training in cloud technologies, followed by advanced professional-level certifications in areas such as DevOps, AI, applications business processes, application development, and data science.
