CoreWeave Secures Infrastructure Deal with AI Video Pioneer Runway

The specialized AI infrastructure provider CoreWeave has entered into a significant agreement with Runway, a leading company in generative AI video and world models. The contract will see CoreWeave supply its cloud platform to scale and accelerate Runway’s next-generation model development and deployment.

This partnership highlights the growing demand for high-performance, purpose-built cloud solutions tailored to the intensive computational needs of cutting-edge AI research and production. Runway, whose tools are utilized by major film studios, game developers, and research teams in fields like autonomous systems, will leverage CoreWeave’s infrastructure to advance its ambitious roadmap.

The Strategic Partnership for Next-Gen AI Video

Runway has established itself as a critical player in the generative AI landscape, particularly for video synthesis. Its models enable the creation and editing of video, images, and 3D environments from text or other media prompts. The computational requirements for training and running inference on these increasingly complex models are immense, pushing the limits of conventional cloud infrastructure.

Selecting a Specialized AI Cloud
In this context, Runway’s selection of CoreWeave points to a strategic shift among AI-native companies. The move underscores a preference for providers that offer infrastructure engineered specifically for massive parallel processing, rather than general-purpose cloud services. CoreWeave’s architecture is designed around high-performance GPU clusters, aiming to deliver higher throughput and efficiency for large-scale AI workloads.

Brian Venturo, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer of CoreWeave, framed the agreement as a response to a fundamental change in enterprise technology. “AI is becoming core to how companies build and operate, and they need a cloud platform that can match that shift with performance, efficiency, and scale,” he stated. He positioned Runway as a pioneer whose infrastructure needs reflect the demands of the next wave of AI applications.

Technical Foundations of the Collaboration

The collaboration is grounded in access to specific, high-end hardware and software solutions that CoreWeave provides. This technical backbone is intended to remove infrastructure as a bottleneck for Runway’s research and product teams.

High-Performance Hardware for Training and Inference
A cornerstone of the deal is Runway’s planned use of CoreWeave’s NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 systems. These platforms, built with NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture, are designed for training trillion-parameter models and running real-time inference on massive models. For a company like Runway, which is pushing the boundaries of video generation and world simulation, access to this tier of hardware is a critical enabler for its research cycle.

Integrated Software and Data Management
Beyond raw compute power, the agreement includes integrated software capabilities. Runway will utilize W&B Models for observability across its workloads, providing insights into model performance and development. Furthermore, the company plans to make its models available via W&B Inference, which is powered by the CoreWeave AI Cloud Platform.

A key component is CoreWeave AI Object Storage, a service highlighted for its global accessibility without egress or transaction fees. For AI teams working with petabytes of training data—such as video libraries—the ability to make a single dataset instantly available to globally distributed GPU clusters can significantly accelerate development timelines and reduce complexity.

Implications for the AI and Cloud Landscape

The partnership between an AI application leader and a specialized infrastructure firm reflects broader trends in the technology sector. As generative AI models grow in sophistication and commercial application, the infrastructure layer is undergoing a parallel specialization.

The Performance Benchmarking Factor
CoreWeave’s positioning in this deal is bolstered by its performance claims. The company cites top rankings in industry benchmarks like MLPerf for AI workloads and the SemiAnalysis ClusterMAX ratings, which evaluate AI cloud performance and efficiency. For enterprise customers like Runway, these benchmarks provide a quantifiable rationale for selecting a newer cloud provider over established incumbents, prioritizing raw technical capability over breadth of service.

Anastasis Germanidis, Co-Founder and CTO of Runway, emphasized the operational necessity of a reliable and scalable platform. “That level of ambition requires a reliable, scalable AI cloud platform that allows us to accelerate our research and serve a wide range of customers,” he said. He noted that CoreWeave’s integrated solutions would be key to productizing research with speed.

Broadening Industry Applications
While Runway is renowned for its creative tools, the company’s work on “world models” has implications far beyond media. Applications in autonomous driving simulation, robotics training, life sciences research, and interactive avatars represent a rapidly expanding addressable market. The infrastructure supporting this work must therefore be both powerful and flexible, capable of serving diverse inference needs across multiple industries simultaneously.

This deal suggests that the infrastructure built for today’s most demanding AI workloads may become the default for a wider range of scientific and industrial computing tasks in the future. The requirement for high-throughput, low-latency access to GPU clusters is becoming a standard across advanced research and development sectors.
